Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Rosanne Cash comes to The Lyric this February for a performance that will take you on a journey through the American South. Accompanied by her long-time guitarist and husband John Leventhal, Cash will perform tracks from her critically acclaimed, multiple-Grammy winning 2014 album The River and the Thread as well as singles from some of her 15 successful country albums. Throughout her career, Rosanne Cash has charted 21 Top 40 Country singles and 11 #1 hits. A winner of the Smithsonian’s American Ingenuity Award, Cash says “songwriting is one of the only places in which I can time travel.” Travel with Rosanne Cash this season as she explores classic American genres from country and blues to Appalachian folk and gospel.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Cash was born into country royalty. Always passionate about music, Cash recorded her self-titled debut album in 1978 and never looked back. Since the ‘70s, Rosanne Cash has recorded 15 albums, including Seven Year Ache and King’s Record Shop in the 1980s, and the later albums Black Cadillac and The List, which were both nominated for Grammy awards. The List (2009), which explored essential songs of American life, was celebrated as Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Cash has worked with husband John Leventhal for decades. In addition to his role as lead guitarist, Leventhal also produces and arranges Rosanne’s albums. In addition to recording, Cash has published four books, including her latest 2010 memoir entitled “Composed.”
Her latest album, The River and the Thread, is a snapshot of American life, examining geographic, historic, and emotional landscapes of the South. The album features guest recordings from John Paul White of the Civil Wars, Derek Trucks, John Prine, and Tony Joe White among others. Drawing from a variety of genres, The River and the Thread is as personal as it is universal, giving listeners a sense of who Rosanne Cash is and a taste of the lives of all American southerners. This February at The Lyric Theatre, Rosanne Cash will perform songs from The River and the Thread and many of her other albums.
