Human Nature-Back to the Sound of Motown

It all began with four friends in high school. More than two decades ago, brothers Andrew and
Mike Tierney and their friends, Phil Burton and Toby Atlas, formed an Australian boy band,
4Trax. Distinctive harmonies caught the attention of Sony Music Australia’s CEO and after they
performed an a cappella version of “People Get Ready,” they were signed to a contract on the
spot. They changed the band’s name to Human Nature and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since signing with Sony Australia, Human Nature has released 13 studio albums, four of which
went to No. 1 in Australia. They have garnered 27 awards, 19 Top 40 singles, and five Top hits
worldwide, and have sold more than 2.5 million albums in Australia alone.
In 2005, Human Nature turned its attention to the music of Motown with the album Reach Out:
The Motown Record. The collection of classic tunes including “My Girl,” “Baby, I Need Your
Lovin,’” and “I’ll Be There,” topped the charts and sold more than 420,000 copies in Australia. It
was followed in 2006 with Dancing in the Streets, and this time the guys joined forces with
some of Motown’s biggest stars like Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Martha Reeves, The
Temptations, and Smokey Robinson.
Working with Robinson garnered Human Nature a four-year residency at the Imperial Palace in
Las Vegas, presenting the show, Smokey Robinson presents Human Nature: The Motown
Show. The show moved next to the Sands Showroom inside the Venetian Hotel & Casino for a
two-year residency.
The release of an American album, Jukebox: The Ultimate Playlist, led to a PBS special and a U.S tour. They returned to The Venetian and, in 2019, celebrated 10 years and 2000 shows at the entertainment venue.
In its 30-year history, Human Nature has toured Australia 15 times and performed with some of entertainment’s biggest names, including Michael Jackson and Celine Dion. They performed
worldwide to audiences during the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and
appeared with Oprah Winfrey during her Australian special. The group has received the Order
of Australia, the highest honor awarded to Australians, for service to the performing arts and
entertainment.
